Chairman’s Report

Laura Folk Fair Chairman’s Report to AGM 1/7/2019

Laura Folk Fair 2019 was once again a successful weekend. The weather was very kind once the Friday wind cleared. Crowd numbers were excellent.

A great line up of entertainment with variety for the whole family with the high-quality kids entertainment being another success story for us. The Amazing Drumming Monkeys were once again a draw card for the kids and parents alike. The petting zoo was also popular. Our two stages over the weekend had a great line up of entertainment including Bliss entertaining a crowd of around 1000 people on Saturday night until late. Other regulars and new artists entertained the crowds over the whole weekend. In all , entertainment to suit all tastes.

The bar was expanded this year after many suggestions to do so and I feel it was a success and would like to continue I the future.

With more research the variety and number of stalls was improved with several new stall holders and regulars providing a great selection of local and mostly Australian Products. Due to the increased number of stalls we opened up the middle of the mall to stallholders with their own gazebos which proved popular. New and established food stalls were well patronised and the local fundraising groups were all pleased with their efforts which remind us how much this great local event does for the region as a whole.

Something we have done for the last 2 years is have an ATM machine in the mall this has been an absolute winner with patrons now able to access cash from within the town and spend it while they are here, and we are amazed at the turnover if these machines. Word from stallholders is very positive as customers are now able to purchase more.

The Zanker family was successful again in the ice cream eating contest.

The Laura Agricultural Bureau’s second Boot Toss has last year’s runner up winning although the distance tossed was less due to a head wind on Sunday afternoon.

I would like to thank the hardworking committee for the hours put in both leading up to the event and the massive hours committed to what amounts to a very long weekend. Special thanks must also go to all the great team leaders and their willing workers. The people of Laura are amazing hoe they turn up each year to set up, man stalls, and pack up each and every year. Between the committee, the team leaders and the towns people Laura is firmly on the events map of South Australia.

During the last 2 years Laura Folk Fair has pledged $5000 each year towards the town project of the upgraded toilet block at the Civic Centre and we have now paid the full amount of $10 000 which now means fundraising is going to be a huge part of the next few months leading up to the next Fair. Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you All!!
